When We Meet for Sunday Worship at St. Philip’s
We extend a cordial welcome to all visitors to come and share in
the worship of God with us.
The Act of Worship
Our
worship is liturgical in nature. We follow a set pattern of scripture
readings, prayers, and congregational responses as provided in the
Book of Common Prayer, a copy of which can be found in each pew.
At all Sunday services, we read four lessons from the Bible and
preach on at least one of the lessons. The music used to enhance
our worship service, which includes congregational hymns and choral
anthems, is taken from two sources The Hymnal (traditional) and
Lift Every Voice and Sing (LEV) (spiritual songs). The principal
part of our service is a celebration of the Holy Eucharist (Holy
Communion). All baptized persons, who receive Holy Communion in
their home church, are welcome to receive Holy Communion with us.
As a general rule, we stand to sing, to say our affirmation of faith,
the Creed; and for the reading of the Gospel. We sit during readings
from the Old Testament or New Testament Letters, the sermon, and
the choir anthems. For prayer, we stand or kneel to show our gratefulness
to God for accepting us or as an act of humility before God.
We hope that you will join us for an inspiring worship service and
enjoyable fellowship at St. Philip’s.
“Before the service, speak to the Lord; during the service,
let Him speak to you; after the service, speak to others.”
All are invited to remain for fellowship in the Parish Hall immediately
following the worship service.

Prayer for the Parish
Lord. Almighty and ever living God, Ruler of all
things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for our parish
family, St. Philip’s. Strengthen the faithful, arouse
the careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things
necessary for our common life, and bring us all to be of one
heart and mind within your holy church: through Jesus Christ
our Lord. AMEN
