Haitian Boys' Choir, "Les Petits Chanteurs" and Chamber
Ensemble, Benefit Concert
Thursday, Sept.
15, 2011, 7:00 p.m.
St. Philip's College, Watson Fine Arts Center, 1801 Martin
Luther King Drive
This renowned 30-voice boy’s choir from Haiti is touring in
the U.S. to raise money for the reconstruction of the Holy
Trinity Music School in Port-au-Prince
which was destroyed in the 2010 earthquake.
Episcopalians know about Haiti because it
has the numerically largest diocese of the Episcopal Church.
It operates the most schools of any Episcopal diocese
anywhere, including trade schools, a music school and a
university. Founded 50
years ago, Holy Trinity Music School is the only music
school of its kind in Haiti, offering music education to
children of all economic classes in the Port-au-Prince area.
Reconstruction efforts are
ongoing to restore this nation’s cultural heritage. The
purpose of this concert is to “raise awareness of the rich
musical traditions of Haiti and the importance of the school
in the life of the country today”.
